‘Beecham House’ Opens Its Doors

Email share

Set in the 18th century before British rule, Beecham House weaves a tale of scandal, murder, and mystery into the historical fabric of colonial India. Critically-acclaimed writer, producer, and director Gurinder Chadha (Bend It Like Beckham, Bride & Prejudice, Blinded by the Light) crafts a riveting period drama full of charm and spectacle in this new six-part drama series on Masterpiece.

Tom Bateman (Vanity Fair, Murder on the Orient Express) portrays the charismatic and mysterious John Beecham, an Englishman and former soldier who moves to Delhi for a fresh start. But with family secrets and a baby in tow, not even mansion walls can shelter Beecham from the prying eyes that threaten his private existence.

Lesley Nicol (Downton Abbey), Gregory Fitoussi (Mr. Selfridge, Spiral), Adil Ray (Citizen Khan, Ackley Bridge), Pallavi Sharda (Lion), Dakota Blue Richards (Endeavour), Leo Suter (Victoria, Sanditon), Bessie Carter (Howard’s End), Viveik Kalra (Blinded By The Light), and Marc Warren (Safe, Hustle) round out the ensemble cast.

“Gurinder Chadha really delivers on this epic family saga,” wrote Lisa Honig of FremantleMedia. “It has everything: gorgeous locations, exquisite costumes, rich diverse characters and a compelling script.”

“I haven’t seen a series as visually sumptuous as Beecham House in a long time,” wrote Rebecca Eaton, Executive Producer of Masterpiece. “This is a new time and place for our audience… India in 1795, before the Raj. There is love and passion, too, and a storyline full of deepening mystery.”

Beecham House airs on Fridays at 9 p.m., beginning October 30.
