We are seeking a skilled, reliable Television Maintenance Engineer to join our evolving team. An ideal Television Maintenance Engineer will be well-versed in various testing methods and safety practices and able to demonstrate high-level problem-solving skills related to the maintenance and repair of broadcast equipment.

  • Position: Television Maintenance Engineer
  • Reports to: Manager of Broadcast Engineering, Television, and Facilities
  • Supervises: None
  • Location: 50 Park Lane (in-person only)
  • Type: Full-Time
  • Exempt / Non Exempt: Non-Exempt, Union

Basic Function:
The Television Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability and safety of machinery and station infrastructure. The Television
Maintenance Engineer will focus on: the operation, repair, and maintenance of broadcast equipment including, IT systems, OTT systems, and Digital Encoding systems to the component level. This position will also ensure that all installations, repairs, and maintenance are performed to the highest standards.

Specific Duties (including but not limited to):

  • Diagnose and repair, to the component level, all Broadcast, IT, OTT related equipment, including the following systems:
    • High-powered VHF transmitter
    • 13 GHz microwave transmission
    • IT routing/ Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP)
    • SMPTE 259M and SMPTE 292M processing,
    • Asynchronous Serial Interface (ASI) transmission streams,
    • Encoding,
    • Trans-coding system
    • GPS Synchronization Clock Distribution
    • Ross Expression Graphics
    • Ross Carbonite Production Switcher
    • AJA KiPro video recording and playout
    • Offline video editing
    • In House RF distribution
    • 3GB Hitachi Z-HD5500 Studio Cameras
  • Responsible for the proactive identification of potential issues and the development and implementation of plans to address and fix potential problems.
  • Assist in the design of the file processing system
  • Draft/Create and maintain technical documentation including AutoCAD
    Schematics
  • Work collaboratively with the engineering staff and assist other staff members on projects, troubleshooting and repairing technical problems.
  • Act as the Engineer in Charge for live studio and remote events.
  • Be available on-call 24/7.
  • Assistant Chief Operator pursuant to FCC regulations
  • Mentor and Guide Engineers and Technicians in operations and maintenance
  • Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned or needed.

Education / Experience / Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electronics or other related technical degree is required
  • 5-8 years in broadcast/production/IT engineering maintenance experience is required
  • Experience in maintaining digital broadcast equipment including:
    • Automation systems
    • Archive systems
    • Video file servers
    • LTO storage
    • Video tape machines
    • Digital master control and production switchers and effects systems
    • Digital audio systems
    • Cameras
    • Digital editing systems
    • Microwave and fiber transmission systems
    • Digital transmitters.
  • Thorough knowledge of Windows/Mac/Unix/Linux based operating systems, LAN/WAN platforms, and TCP/IP is required
  • Strong understanding of all aspects involved with content delivery and the ability to prioritize needs quickly and efficiently
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work in a professional manner
  • SBE certification preferred
  • FCC license preferred
  • Ability to lift 75 lbs. is required
  • Flexibility to work overtime, nights and weekends is required.
