‘Multiple’ Dead After Five-Alarm Fire at Assisted Living Facility in Fall River

“Multiple” people are dead after a five-alarm fire at an assisted living facility in Fall River on Sunday night, according to the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services. The Boston Globe reported 9 people and at least 30 people injured.

The Fall River Fire Department first responded to the Gabriel House of Fall River assisted living facility at about 9:50 Sunday night. About 50 firefighters eventually responded, the Department of Fire Services said.

The Gabriel House facility has 100 units, according to state data.

Authorities have set up a family notification center at the chapel at the nearby St. Anne’s Hospital. Those seeking information can call 508-674-5741 or use the Emergency Room entrance to access the center.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
