Summary:
Would you like to join a growing team of journalists in a different kind of newsroom? Ocean State Media is the largest locally owned media organization covering Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. Our focus is on covering our region through a community-focused lens, emphasizing stories and community content with depth, insight, and humanity.
To that end, Ocean State Media is looking for a Community Producer to deepen our ties with the region and develop talent and content for OSM’s platforms. The Community Producer will be responsible for working with community groups and individuals to develop local talent and content for our multiple platforms, producing arts and culture content for our multiple platforms, and managing the Torey Malatia Local Journalism Fellowship program, developed to nurture non-traditional journalists from a diversity of backgrounds.
Specific Duties (including but not limited to):
- Community partnerships: Developing relationships with artists, arts organizations and community groups
- Community Content: Working with the Chief Content Officer, Managing Editor and staff to adapt community content (i.e. stories, performances, community events) for our digital and broadcast platforms
- Community Engagement: Building deep community relationships; host and otherwise participate in in-person community events
- Torey Malatia Journalism Fellowships: Leading the recruiting, training and managing of aspiring journalists from across the region, through established relationships with schools as well as outreach to nontraditional candidates in our diverse communities
- Fundraising: Participate in regular on-air fund drives
- Other duties as determined by the Chief Content Officer
Education / Experience / Qualifications:
- A minimum of 2-5 years of community-centered journalism experience
- Knowledge of regional communities and issues
- A passion for arts and culture
- Audio and video production experience
- Digital production experience
- Knowledge and experience with social media as a content platform
- Experience in training and leading teams
- Proficiency in written and spoken Spanish and/or Portuguese would be helpful
- Excellent writing skills
- A demonstrated track record of community engagement, i.e. working collaboratively with school groups, community groups and individuals of different backgrounds and skill sets
- A track record of exhibiting cultural competency in their work and their professional life

Compensation:
The compensation range for this position is between $60,000 and $65,000.
