Position Summary
Rhode Island PBS and The Public’s Radio are at a pivotal moment, merging a strong legacy of public radio and television broadcasting into a powerful new community-centered public media organization serving the people of Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts. At this exciting moment of transformation, we seek a visionary Chief Growth and Innovation Officer (CGIO) to lead our multiplatform content strategy and audience development efforts.
As a key partner to the CEO and a member of the senior leadership team, the CGIO will oversee content creation, programming, distribution, and audience engagement across all platforms—broadcast, digital, and in-person. This role will also oversee production teams, including editors, camera crews, and staff members across the merged organization, to create a high-performing, collaborative culture.
We are looking for a strategic leader with a deep understanding of community listening and engagement, data analytics, and emerging media trends. This person will also be a champion for building a great work culture and fostering a commitment to collaboration and innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Shape the vision for multiplatform storytelling and engagement in partnership with the CEO.
- Lead a community-centered content strategy, ensuring storytelling is deeply local, compelling, relevant, and accessible across all platforms.
- Strengthen partnerships with local organizations, independent creators, and other non-profit media outlets.
- Lead efforts to connect with and amplify diverse communities from across the region.
- Use data and audience insights to guide content and distribution decisions.
- Champion a digital-first, future-forward approach to content creation and community engagement.
- Ensure the highest standards of editorial integrity and journalistic guidelines.
- Collaborate with the Chief Revenue Officer and senior leadership to align content with sustainability and membership growth.
Team Leadership & Culture
- Lead and mentor cross-functional teams in news, digital, production, and engagement.
- Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, inclusion, and collaboration, ensuring our content is powered by and reflective of our community.
- Oversee workflows that support creativity, efficiency, and cross-team alignment.
- Create pathways for professional growth and mentorship for staff.
Qualifications
- 10+ years in content and/or media leadership, including 10+ years in senior roles.
- Proven success driving digital transformation and audience growth.
- Strong editorial experience and a deep understanding of public media and community storytelling.
- Experience managing production teams.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and partnership-building skills.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in journalism, media, or related field.
