Fridays at 8: Explore Local Flavors with ‘A Taste of Rhode Island’

When it comes to food, Rhode Islanders tend to add their own flair. Combining flavors from Italian, French, Portuguese, Irish, and English heritages with Latin American, Asian, and African influences, the Ocean State has become a diverse food destination. In each episode, docu-series A Taste of Rhode Island has made it its mission to celebrate the state’s unique dishes by highlighting the restaurants, chefs, farms, and fishermen that make them possible. Starting Friday, July 3 at 8 and 8:30 p.m., revisit your favorite flavors with an encore of A Taste of Rhode Island. Continue tuning in every Friday night for brand new episodes, including:

"Block Island Summer" – Friday, July 24 at 8:30 p.m.

Block Island is home to some of the best food in the state, thanks to locally-sourced seafood and a great growing climate. Visit two historic hotels that source much of their produce and herbs from onsite gardens: the Spring House and the Atlantic Inn. Then, head down to the beach and Ballard’s Inn, a landmark restaurant and Inn that has been family owned since 1938.

"Jamestown Island" – Friday, July 31 at 8:00 p.m.

Nestled between Aquidneck Island and the west side of Narragansett Bay is historic Jamestown Island, home to some of the best restaurants in the area. Stop at Simpatico, Jamestown’s longtime favorite restaurant, where a diverse menu of colorful dishes is served. Across the street, meet chef and owner Matthew McCartney, who is creating world-class fish and seafood dishes that pair with their award-winning wine list.

"A South County Sampler" – Friday, July 31 at 8:30 p.m.

Known as a region of tremendous natural beauty, South County is often referred to as Rhode Island’s “hidden gem.” And hidden amongst all its natural beauty are notable eateries. In this episode, visit the Breachway Grill, Casa Della Luce, and Mew’s Tavern.
