On Monday, June 15 at 7 p.m., join Rhode Island PBS for a statewide celebration honoring the academic achievements of every high school graduate in Rhode Island.
More than 9,000 seniors will be collectively recognized during Your Year 2020, a televised graduation ceremony hosted by Governor Gina Raimondo, the Rhode Island Department of Education, and Rhode Island PBS in association with Coast 93.3. Featuring a series of musical performances, student speeches, and memorable moments from the past year, the program also includes guest appearances from local and national celebrities - all of whom have words of inspiration and encouragement for the graduating class.
Viola Davis, winner of an Academy Award, an Emmy Award, and two Tony Awards, will deliver a keynote address and commencement speech.
The broadcast will then include a video compilation from the seniors themselves, who were invited to share their favorite memories, events, and extracurricular activities in a creative way. Finalists in the student song competition will perform their favorite musical numbers, while class valedictorians will deliver their graduation speeches.
Billy Gilman, two-time Grammy Award nominee and runner-up on The Voice, will perform his hit single, “Soldier.” Erika Van Pelt, a top-10 contestant on American Idol, will sing the National Anthem.
Pre-recorded messages will be offered by a variety of local and national celebrities, including veteran broadcast journalist and television personality Meredith Vieira, Olympic swimming medalist Elizabeth Beisel, director and producer Seth MacFarlane, New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman, running back James White, quarterback Jarrett Stidham, Red Sox manager Ron Roenicke, and Miss Rhode Island Teen USA 2020 Sofia Ledoux, and more.
With an outpouring of support from across Rhode Island and beyond, Your Year 2020 brings high school seniors the heartfelt congratulations they deserve. On Monday, June 15 at 7 p.m. students, parents, grandparents, family, and friends can watch the special on WSBE Rhode Island PBS, stream it online at ripbs.org/stream, and listen to the simulcast on Coast 93.3.
