It was Antiques Roadshow’s first-ever visit to historic Newport, Rhode Island, and the show’s first-ever outdoor appraisal event. On that day in mid-September, neither the threat of Hurricane Jose nor construction on the Newport Pell Bridge dampened the festive spirits of almost 3,000 guests eager to see if their item, their story would be that special treasure to make it onto the show.
On Sunday, May 27 at 8 p.m. see the first of three hours of treasures, fascinating history, and surprises captured by cameras both indoors and outdoors. Featured items include a diamond waterfall pin swaying in the breeze, a Rohmer doll is valued on the patio, and Tiffany vases stun an appraiser in the lavish ballroom.
The following week, June 3, "Newport, Hour 2" sees appraisal of antique and vintage treasures in a Gilded Age mansion, with items such as a Fabergé jade snuff bottle made around 1890, a Basquiat oil stick drawing, and a General Wharton Civil War archive. Which is valued at $400,000?
Finally, on June 10, "Newport, Hour 3" of Antiques Roadshow wraps up its groundbreaking visit to Rosecliff mansion with even more treasures, including a Tiffany & Co. sapphire and diamond ring, a Boston bureau table made around 1770, and M.C. Escher lithographs. Find out which is appraised for $100,000.
