Email share

The travel, food, and adventure series Weekends with Yankee returns for its second season this April and showcases unique locations and attractions all across New England.

Co-hosts Richard Wiese and Amy Traverso bring viewers on a variety of adventures through all six New England states.

From cheering on a minor league baseball team in Connecticut to tagging great white sharks in Massachusetts and hearing the story of the historic Rose Island Lighthouse right here in Rhode Island Richard Wiese is our New England sites guide.

While Wiese explores New England, co-host and Yankee magazine Senior Food Editor Amy Traverso travels to different restaurants in the region and cooks up mouthwatering dishes like a delicious graham cracker pie and savory lobster chowder.

The series airs Mondays at 7:30 p.m., beginning April 23.

Season 2 is composed of 13 half-hour episodes, starting with:

Ep #201 “The End of the Line” (April 23)

Richard Wiese meets up with dune tour guide Rob Costa in Provincetown, Massachusetts, for an off-road ramble through Cape Cod National Seashore, taking in the views and stopping to visit one of the famous artists’ cottages there. Next, he travels down to Rhode Island and out onto Narragansett Bay to hear the story of the historic Rose Island Lighthouse. For the last stop, Amy Traverso boards a ferry to the Maine island of North Haven, a place so beautiful the locals call it “North Heaven.” Back in the Test Kitchen, she cooks up a cobbler made with real Maine blueberries.

Ep #202: “Into the Wild” (April 30)

This week, they venture into the wild. First, Richard Wiese boards a small boat off Chatham, Massachusetts, to accompany one of the leading researchers tracking the growing number of great white sharks along the Atlantic coast. From there Traverso heads to a remote corner of inland Maine to visit The Lost Kitchen, one of the most sought-after dinner reservations in the country. Finally, it’s off to the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, where Wiese flies up and down the mountain biking trails of Burke Mountain, taking in stunning scenery at every turn. In the Test Kitchen, Traverso creates a delicious graham cracker pie using a recipe from The Lost Kitchen chef-owner Erin French.

Ep #203: “Small is Beautiful” (May 7)

This week’s episode showcases the small things in New England. The first stop is a minor league baseball game in Connecticut, where fans cheer with big-league fervor. Next, they travel up the coast of Maine in search of the ultimate lobster roll, which leads them to an idyllic cove in South Thomaston and a classic little shack called McLoons. Then they hike into the Ossipee Mountains to discover Castle in the Clouds, a hidden gem nestled high above New Hampshire’s famed Lakes Region. Back in the Test Kitchen, Traverso cooks up a savory lobster chowder featuring saffron, tomatoes, and bacon.

We will add more information about upcoming episodes and their air dates as the content becomes available.
