On this
site you will find original writing guides along with dozens of links to other
great writing resources on the Web. - Write-On
Rhode Island
This site is dedicated to promoting and highlighting student
writers in Rhode Island.. - abcteach.com
This is a great site for teachers of young children with many ideas for classroom
use. March is National Reading month, so the site includes a reading chart that
encourages students to read different types of books as well as signs, cereal
boxes, and a variety of different types of material. For creating books, there
are shapes that can be printed, copied, and cut out for shape books where students
can write a story. Printable research cards are available for students to use
when they are learning basic research skills. - Guide
to Grammar and Writing
Use this online grammar guide to help students
learn about grammar. Specific sections relating to essays, paragraphs, and sentence
will help you find answers to questions quickly and easily. - AltaVista
Translations
AltaVista runs this website translation service. By typing
in text or a URL address you want translated, you can convert it from English,
French, German, Italian, Portugese, or Spanish into any of the other languages.
- Elements
of Style
This site is intended for use in English courses in which the
practice of composition is combined with the study of literature. - Research-It!
Search through various dictionaries and thesauri, look up acronyms and quotations,
translate English to French or Japanese and back again, use the word search, look
up maps, and on and on. - Art
Safari
This site prompts kids to explore paintings and sculptures from
the Museum of Modern Art. A series of questions guides children to write about
what they see. Kids are encouraged to submit their own art. - Researchpaper.com
This link is a great starting point for students who are using the Web to
do research and then write term papers. It offers "topics, ideas, and assistance"
for school related research projects. Caution: this is a commercial site, so be
advised that the ads might not be suitable for your school. - Statistics
Every Writer Should Know
A little background goes a long way when you're
trying to prove a point. This primer called Statistics Every Writers Should Know,
explains in plain English a lot of statistical terms that non-mathematicians blithely
misuse: means; median; margin of error; etc. - The
Write Site
Students take on the role of journalists and learn the skills
of conducting research, collating information and writing stories - just like
real-life journalists. Ironically, when you first enter the site, it's a bit hard
to find your way around. If you're a teacher, follow the non-intuitive link named
"Editor's Desk" to the resource section for teachers. For students, the equally
crpytic "Newsstand" is the interactive section for students. - Resources
for Writers
The Purdue University Writing Lab has a wide variety of documents
that will be valuable resources for those writing papers. The list of topics spans
three pages, and contains such subjects as: Paraphrasing, Proofreading Strategies,
Grammar Usage, and Letter Writing. - Cool
Word of the Day
This site posts a new word every day, and encourages
you to submit words for future posting. The site also allows you to view Cool
Words of the Day which were posted previously. This is fun way to keep increasing
your vocabulary. - The
Quotations Page
This page offers a new quote each day, as well as a search
engine for quotations you might be looking for. You also have the opportunity
to contribute a quotation. |
