WSBE Rhode Island PBS is proud to partner with PBS TeacherLine and provide professional development support for our local teachers interested in developing new skills, increasing student achievement, and earning graduate credit. TeacherLine offers more than 130 graduate level online courses covering all curriculum subjects.
PBS TeacherLine partners with the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) to certify teachers who lead the way in the classroom technology integration. The PBS Capstone Program has earned the ISTE alignment seal with the 2008 National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS•T). Learners who successfully complete the program receive a joint certificate from ISTE and PBS TeacherLine, certifying their proficiency in ISTE NETS•T standards.
PBS TeacherLine, funded through a grant from the U.S Department of Education, provides high quality professional development to K-12 teachers with the goal of improving teacher’s professional practice.
TeacherLine’s professional development courses:
• Incorporate facilitated discussions, quality video, articles, and interactives to help teachers translate their learning into practice
• Receive assistance with technical issues
• Have the opportunity to assess their learning style by taking the TeacherLine “learning online assessment quiz"
• Gauge the comfort level needed for learning online
• Learn to post questions to the help discussion forum that are responded by the board facilitator or a fellow learner within one-to-two days
• Earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs). Requirements for CEUs vary by state and district. Therefore, educators taking these courses need to check with their district professional development office before enrolling. In some cases, educators may be able to use a certificate of completion and a copy of the course syllabus, but educators may need to register for graduate credit to obtain an official transcript for submission. For additional information please visit RIDE office for teacher certification and educator quality
The flexibility with online learning comes from not having to be physically available, for example, on Monday at 5:00 p.m. for the next 8 weeks. If you can't make it on Monday at 5:00 p.m. you can participate on Tuesday or any other day during the week. And if you go visit Uncle Paul in Canada, and he has an Internet access, you won't miss your class participation time, something you would miss in face-to-face courses.
For enrollment in a TeacherLine graduate online course, to earn professional development credit, and to see the upcoming schedule of online courses and events please visit PBS Teacherline.
