  • Disabilities: Attention Deficit Disorder
    This site will provide comprehensive and helpful articles on Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) faced by many educators and families today.

  • Handspeak
    A practical sign language online dictionary. Contains some signs not found in other online dictionaries. Approximately 2800 signs and growing daily.

  • SignWritingSite
    SignWriting makes it possible to have books, newspapers, magazines, dictionaries, and literature written in signs. It can be used to teach signs and signed language grammar to beginning signers, or it can be used to teach other subjects, such as math, history, or English to skilled signers.

  • Talking Books Plus
    The Office of Library and Information Systems (OLIS) provides library services to eligible blind and physically handicapped individuals in Rhode Island through Talking Books Plus, the RI Regional Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped.

  • The Grammar Gorillas
    Special Needs pupils working on sentence construction will enjoy this playful site, which employs cute graphics in a game that tests knowledge of grammar terms and improves overall literacy. The game is helpfully differentiated into Beginners and Advanced stages, with pupils aiming to feed the Grammar Gorillas by correctly identifying nouns, verbs and other parts of speech.

  • The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP)
    The AACAP site is concerned with developmental, behavioral and mental disorders affecting young people. 'Facts for Families' is a collection of introductory articles about juvenile mental health and wellbeing. The articles suggest ways of dealing with issues such as divorce and teenage pregnancy, as well as a range of disorders.

  • Net Connections for Communication Disorders and Sciences
    A catalog of internet resources relating to communication disorders, speech therapy and science, and hearing impairments. The site does not carry its own articles, but a staggering array of links directs you towards information with an academic slant.

    A resource for parents and professionals trying to help at-risk teenagers.

  • Special Needs Opportunities Windows (SNOW)
    Aimed at supporting teachers of students with special needs throught distance education. SNOW also serves as a clearinghouse of resources for those involved in special education.

  • Outside the Box
    This site, in addition to providing links to online resources, also includes pages addressing the classroom needs of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHS) students and a description of what it is like to raise a child with ADHS. This site is designed and maintained by a teacher and a parent of an ADHD child.
