Instructional Television (ITV)

What is ITV?

Instructional Television refers to programs that are developed specifically for classroom use. Because of their focused subject matter and short length (usually 10 to 20 minutes each), they integrate easily into educational plans.

Several of these programs include Teachers' Guides that contain lesson plans, discussion questions and other materials that help teachers integrate the program into classroom teaching.

More than 184 ITV series, covering 13 core curriculum areas and meeting the Rhode Island Department of Education curriculum standards, are broadcast weekdays from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. during the school year. This service is provided at no cost to all Rhode Island K-12 schools.

  • The searchable CD-ROM includes the broadcast schedule, plus full descriptions of programs and their episodes
  • The complete ITV Catalog is also available online through the educational services link

Since 1997, production and distribution of the Rhode Island PBS Instructional Television Program Catalog and CD-ROM has been made possible by generous support from the MetLife Foundation.

On behalf of the MetLife Foundation, Assistant Vice President of Corporate Communications Joe Madden presents a check in the amount of $7,500 to Dr. María del Pilar Velásquez, director of Rhode Island PBS Education Services.

Please complete the items and be as frank as possible. Being less than truthful, in an attempt to be kind, will not help us improve our education services.
