A half-hour special hosted and narrated by Joanne Woodward, WHEN A CHILD PRETENDS explores the complexities and reveals the significance of young children's imaginative play. Focusing on children ages three to six in a variety of environments, this documentary captures the moments when children let their creative instincts take over to construct a new world. Through interviews with child development specialists and psychologists, the program offers special insight into the meaning of these activities. Culled from many hours of footage, the program depicts the special sequences that exemplify the many types of pretend play.
