Our Mission
It
is the mission of the Rhode Island PBS Education Services Department
to assist educators, learners of all ages, and the citizens of Rhode
Island by delivering information and instruction through the newest
and latest telecommunications and technologies.
Our
Goal
Our goal is to use, and teach others
to use, telecommunications and innovative technologies in the field
of education.
The Rhode Island PBS Education
Services Department puts essential programs, technology, and resources
at the fingertips of educators of all types--- teachers, parents,
early childhood care providers, and homeschoolers.
We strive to deliver quality
educational content and instructional programming to Rhode Island
educators, PreK-12 students, students of all ages, and the citizens
of Rhode Island in order help fulfill their educational and self-improvement
goals.
Our
Programs
Our Education Services Department offers the following education
programs and services for parents, childcare providers, educators
and the citizens of Rhode Island: K-12 Instructional Television
Programs (ITV), Ready To Learn Program, Teacher Training and Professional
Development Program, Video Streaming Curriculum Program, Web Information
Network Grouped Sites (W.I.N.G.S), and School Web Sites & Internet
Access (RINET36 Teacher Accounts).
Ready To Learn
Program (RTL)
The
Ready To Learn program by Rhode Island PBS is a Public Broadcasting
Services (PBS) contribution toward the fulfillment of our nation's
foremost educational goal, which is to ensure that all children
begin school ready to learn.
Program
Goals
Help parents identify, recognize, and appreciate their parental
role as their children's first and primary teacher.
Teach
children how to have fun while developing an enthusiasm and love
for learning by watching children's educational programs.
Assist teachers and childcare providers with the enhancement of
their education programs by using Public Educational Television
Programming.

Educational
Television Programs for Children

Ready To Learn offers television that teaches
through a core of daily educational television programs for children
which fosters early literacy and is especially designed to meet
the needs of preschool and school age children. Ready To Learn television
is a national effort service to improve the school readiness of
young children through the reach of public broadcasting.

Training Workshops in English and Spanish
Training
workshops are designed for parents, teachers, and childcare providers!
They focus on basic school readiness skills such as physical and
motor coordination; critical thinking and problem solving; and social,
language, and media literacy.
Training Workshops also include an explanation of the child development
philosophy that is woven into PBS children's educational programs
and instructions for parents and childcare providers on how to use
television programs effectively. Adults
learn how to tie viewing PBS educational children's
programs with the reading of a book and developmentally
appropriate activities.

workshop.

This magazine for children is available in both English and Spanish.
PBS Families Magazine is full of activities that
build literacy skills for adults and children to do together.

Children and adults curriculum and teacher's guides are also provided.

Teacher Training
& Professional Development Program
The Education Services
Department of Rhode Island PBS offers FREE teacher training and
development sessions and workshops held on location and at the Rhode
Island PBS Teleconference Center.
Teacher trainings
provide instruction in basic and advanced use of appropriate telecommunications
technologies in the classroom and offer Professional Development
Credits. In addition and as a complement to its current weekly
ITV broadcast schedule for K-12 schools, the Education Services
Department offers educators blocks of teacher training programs
between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., as well as free Web access to the
Annenberg/CPB Channel through the internet link on: www.RIpbs.org/Education/viewer.html.

Rhode Island PBS
Video Streaming Curriculum Program
Video Streaming Curriculum
is a subscription-based service provided by Rhode Island PBS that
enables educators in Rhode Island to address curriculum and technology
standards quickly and easily.
Video Streaming is
a proven method of technology that engages students and assists
in meeting and exceeding state educational standards! It gives teachers,
students, and parents access to over 5,000 full-length educational
videos and over 50,000 clips of core curriculum in English and Spanish
that are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via the Internet.
By simply searching
the database, users are able to easily locate grade and subject
specific content, and view the videos right on their computers.
Video Streaming Curriculum is widely used to engage students and
revitalize the learning process.

core curriculum in curriculum areas such as life science and biology,
earth and space science, physical science, chemistry, social studies,
math, language arts and reading, health and prevention, general
science, and early childhood.

Rhode
Island PBS W.I.N.G.S. offers curriculum resources and lesson plans
from our website over the Internet for K-12 teachers and homeschoolers.
W.I.N.G.S. includes over 1,500 direct Internet links for easier
accessibility to K-12 related educational resources.

Rhode Island PBS
provides individual dial-up RINET36 email accounts, dedicated high
speed Internet circuits, and school home page hosting free of charge
to Rhode Island K-12 educators, schools, and libraries.
